2018 Bay Area GSBI® Boost Networking Reception

Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County are partnering to run a Bay Area GSBI® Boost, a 3-day workshop that is specifically for social entrepreneurs impacting those in need in the Bay Area.

Join us on Thursday, July 26 at 4:30 pm for a networking reception, where you can hear from these social entrepreneurs on a mission to provide economic opportunities, access to STEM education, housing stability and so much more to underserved populations in the Bay Area. Friends and supporters of Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship and its Global Social Benefit Institute (GSBI®) gather at this annual event to meet the current In-residence accelerator cohort of social entrepreneurs addressing issues of poverty and the planet through market-based solutions.

Learn about the social enterprises when the entrepreneurs present their elevator pitches. It's the ideal setting for networking while enjoying elegant wines and delicious refreshments.

Hear from some of the world's most promising social entrepreneurs who are tackling issues of poverty and the planet at Miller Center's 2018 GSBI Investor Showcase at Santa Clara University on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.
These social entrepreneurs are on a mission to provide those most in need with safe drinking water, improved livelihoods, access to education, agricultural support, and so much more.

The presenting for-profit and nonprofit organizations are participating in Miller Center's signature 10-month accelerator program —accompanied by assigned Silicon Valley executive mentors— and will showcase plans to scale their solutions to impact even more lives across the globe.

About the Movie:

Filmmaker James Redford embarks on a colorful personal journey into the dawn
of the clean energy era as it creates jobs, turns profits, and makes communities stronger and healthier across the US.

Unlikely entrepreneurs in communities from Georgetown, TX to Buffalo, NY reveal pioneering clean energy solutions while James’ discovery of how clean energy works, and what it means at a personal level, becomes the audiences’ discovery too. Reaching well beyond a great story of technology and innovation, “Happening” explores issues of human resilience, social justice, embracing the future, and finding hope for our survival.

About the Filmmaker:

James Redford writes, produces and directs for film and television. His most recent film, HAPPENING: A Clean Energy Revolution – his fifth film for HBO – takes us on a clean energy tour that opens the door to new solutions and real hope. Prior to completing HAPPENING, James directed and produced HBO films including TOXIC HOT SEATTHE BIG PICTURE: Rethinking DyslexiaMANN V. FORD and THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS.

James is the Co-founder and Chair of The Redford Center, a non-profit media entity that engages people through inspiring stories that galvanize environmental action. The Redford Center's film projects include WATERSHEDFIGHTING GOLIATH and THE ART OF ACTIVISM. James lives in Marin County, California where he enjoys playing lead guitar for Olive and the Dirty Martinis as well as yoga, skiing surfing, and cycling.

Showcase: Social Entrepreneurship at the Margins (SEM)

Join us on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, from 4:00-6:00 pm at this exclusive event celebrating the culmination of an exciting journey for our Social Entrepreneurship at the Margins (SEM) cohort.

Through the GSBI® SEM program, these leaders of social enterprises—tackling issues facing refugees, migrants, and human trafficking survivors—have been working with Silicon Valley executive mentors since May.

This event is an opportunity for these for-profit, non-profit, and hybrid social enterprises to showcase their ventures.

After the presentations, you will have an opportunity to meet with the social entrepreneurs at a reception.

Please join us in supporting these mission-driven enterprises and applauding their dedication.
